Though Troy Aikman is the only real player mentioned by name in Troy Aikman NFL Football, each of the 28 NFL teams in this game have been rated according to position, based on stats from the '93-'94 season. You can play for or against any of the teams in the Pre-Season mode, the '93-'94 Season mode, or the Custom Season mode, which lets you design your own season or recreate a season from the NFL's past. Regardless of the mode you decide to play, there are six field surfaces to choose from: grass, mud, dirt, snow, rain, and artificial turf. An internal battery in the cartridge lets you save pre-season or season career stats and return to any season in progress after you turn off your SNES. If you just want to coach, you can call all of the plays and let the computer run them. Other options and features include: four different quarter lengths, penalties turned on or off, a pre-game report, fair catches, five different running techniques, touch backs, audibles, play-offs (including the Super Bowl), instant replay, time outs, and multiple offensive and defensive plays.
