Conflict: Desert Storm (Nintendo GameCube, 2003)

Product Specs
Description
The GameCube version of Conflict: Desert Storm, the squad based shooter that takes place during the 1991 Gulf War, has undergone a number of changes in an effort to improve upon the realism found in the earlier PS2, Xbox, and PC games. While players must still guide a four-man team of Special Forces soldiers through a series of 15 missions set behind enemy lines, the computer AI is designed to react differently than in previous versions. Enemy soldiers now remember where the player's team was last spotted and will spread out to actively search for them. The enemy also reacts to noise such as gunfire if it occurs within earshot, alerting others of the player's position. Other enhancements include a new targeting reticule to improve accuracy when soldiers are lying prone, the ability to hide troops more effectively from the watchful eyes of enemy soldiers, and team members who will only fire upon enemies when engaged or ordered to "fire at will" from the commands screen. Conflict: Desert Storm for GameCube also supports Dolby Pro Logic II to help envelop players in the gritty sounds of modern warfare. The mission structure, modes of play, and core features are otherwise the same as in previous versions of the game. Tactical elements include positioning troops in key locations and using stealth to avoid detection in heavily guarded compounds. Weapons run the gamut from the silent swish of a knife to the steady rattle of a heavy machine gun, and players will be able to call upon Allied Forces to launch cruise missiles or fire artillery at requested targets. Conflict: Desert Storm also allows players to commandeer jeeps and helicopters at various points during the campaign. To help ensure authenticity in both the environments and types of missions, Gotham Games sought the technical expertise of Cameron Spence, who served in the Gulf War as an SAS officer.
