A modern reworking of the 1978 arcade smash, Space Invaders '91 sticks with the "slide-and-shoot" formula invented by the original game. However, the modernized game is faster, and a number of fresh elements are introduced, including music, shields, weapon power-ups (such as bombs and lasers), and colorful aliens with more variety. One of the more intriguing inclusions is Perfect Bonus, which grants players 10,000 extra points when the number of shots fired is equal to the number of aliens that appear. SI '91 is not as challenging as the original game, and it suffers from the lack of a two-player mode, but it's a solid attempt at breathing new life into a sadly dated genre.
