Call of Duty 2: Big Red One focuses primarily on the 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. The 1st, or "Big Red One," is the Army's most decorated unit, and is the oldest continuously serving division. Big Red One entered the war in North Africa, and fought at Normandy on D-Day. Players will follow the trail of the 1st through Africa, Italy, and Western Europe in a variety of land, sea, and air missions. Den-based brothers in arms take on several roles to defend against oncoming attacks during a B-24 Liberator bombing run such as gunner or bombardier. During a single-player campaign, gamers can rely on squad members to guide them through the levels, and to point out targets and enemies. As players get farther into the game, the difficulty level will rise and each mission will require more thought and strategic planning. Multiplayer modes support up to 16 players for games on 12 maps such as "Deathmatch," "Team Deathmatch," "Capture the Flag," and "Domination."
