Rez (Sony PlayStation 2, 2002)

Description
Sega's first year of third-party publishing brings this distinct, genre-crossing action title to the PS2. Rez blends elements of 3D shooters and rhythm-and-dance games to create an experience custom-designed for fast action and psychedelic visuals. The game is set in the ethereal networks of the world's "master computer," which is suffering a personal breakdown upon realizing its own sentience. A hero must enter the network to find and rescue this newly aware system core, known as "Eden." Firewall "bosses" and other security devices threaten at every turn. The player controls a wire-frame character who moves forward "on rail" through the game's graphically eclectic environments. Different objects appear and must be shot in time to remove them from the screen. Music and lighting effects attune to the hero's rhythm as he blasts away at enemies. As the player progresses through the game, characters and graphics become more visually arresting as the speed and number of targets increase.
