Microsoft's third entry in its NBA Inside Drive basketball series on Xbox offers players five game modes: Single Play, Season, Network Play, Playoffs, and General Manager. As with Microsoft's other sports titles released in 2003, the game supports the "XSN Sports" feature for online tournaments, leagues, and head-to-head competition. Xbox Live owners will also be able to keep their league rosters or player ratings up to date by downloading the latest changes. Whether players decide to compete online or challenge the computer, the heart of NBA Inside Drive is the General Manager mode, where would-be owners and coaches can guide their team through 25 consecutive seasons, wheeling and dealing players, drafting new recruits, or gambling away the future by trading draft picks for seasoned athletes. Revamped computer AI means players will be able to perform more low-post moves in the key as well as elude defenders with jukes or icon-based passing. The announcing team of Kenny Smith, Kevin Calabro, and Marques Johnson handle the play-by-play commentary and in-game analysis as the action unfolds on the hardwood.
