Description
Off-Road Challenge is a 3D truck racer, with arcade-style action and unforgiving courses over dirt, mud, and snow. Players can choose from four trucks, with four additional, more powerful "hidden" vehicles available to those who can find them. Courses include "Mojave," "Pike's Peak," "Las Vegas," "El Paso," "Baja," and "Ol' South." Two additional courses must be unlocked for play. As in the game's 16-bit isometric inspiration -- racers such as Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road -- players can upgrade their trucks, if they've got the money. Players earn cash both by collecting icons that appear on the courses, and also by winning races. Money can be spent on better acceleration, speed, shocks, or tires, or on nitros for a quick boost in the races. In the game's tournament modes, players attempt to finish fourth or better in each race in a circuit. A third-place finish on all courses promotes the player from "Rookie" to "Novice." Finishing second or better on all courses earns the ranking of "Pro." The ultimate goal is to finish first in all races, winning the title of "Master." Options allow players to adjust the skill levels of computer-controlled opponents, configure controllers, change sound levels, and select the background "sky" color.
