Based on the 1999 movie starring Brendan Fraser, The Mummy for the Game Boy Color is a 46-stage adventure that closely follows the storyline of the blockbuster film. Players can switch between three characters at any time to take advantage of their distinct abilities. Rick O'Connell can attack with a pistol or use a rifle power-up, while Evelyn can dash and open doors. Jonathan can punch and use dynamite, but the mysterious Ardeth Bay only attacks with a sword. All characters can find stones, torches, and healing potions to assist them. The goal in each side-scrolling stage is to collect a specific number of items before finding the exit, which generally involves climbing ladders, hitting switches, pushing objects, and using torches to light darkened areas. Dynamite can also be used to destroy crumbling walls. Enemies include mummies, zombies, scarabs, ghosts, black-robed soldiers, Anck-su-namun, and Imhotep. Environmental dangers such as water, crushing walls, quicksand, and spikes must be avoided as well. Progress in this adventure can be resumed via passwords offered at the end of each stage.
