Description

NBA Hoopz for the Game Boy Color is an arcade-style basketball game. NBA Hoopz is less a simulation and more an action game, filled with bone-jarring collisions and physically impossible moves that Midway sports games are known for. In NBA Hoopz, players will take the role of an actual NBA team that includes real players such as Shaq, Allen Iverson, and 200 other real NBA players. The game is played full court, with teams of three-on-three competing in four quarters of action. It isn't traditional NBA action, however, as the movement is faster and the fouling is much more forgiving. In fact, if you don't want to deal with fouls in NBA Hoopz, you don't have to, as they can be turned off completely in the options menu. Quarter length and mid-season injuries can also be adjusted within this menu. Other features, central to the game, cannot be adjusted, but fans of extreme basketball wouldn't want it any other way. These include the "on-fire" feature, which gives a team that has made three unanswered baskets in a row a boost to both speed and power, and the general over-the-top speed and passing that makes up the overall gameplay. While NBA Hoopz is for one-player only, aspiring basket-heads have two different modes to choose from. The first, the down-and-dirty Single Game, lets players who just want a quick fix battle it out in a lone contest. There's also a Season mode, which charts the course of one team over an entire year of play. The game is saved through a password feature that lets players pick up the season where they last let off.
