Lately, as ships have been passing through the Gridonion Asteroid Field -- a path between Earth and the Nether-Planets -- they have been disappearing. Now that path has been quarantined by the Galactic Government until the problem can be solved. Axxel and Tara are freelance explorers who have been offered the job of exploring the Gridonion Asteroid Field. As the two pass through the field they find a deserted ship. Axxel decides to investigate the ship and finds that it is a trap set by the evil empress Vorga. As Axxel, you are now forced into becoming a Grid Runner. Grid Runner is similar to tag with a deadly twist. You have to collect flags in order to advance through the game. If someone tags you then you cannot collect flags until you tag them back. There are a total of 57 rounds in the one-player game. The two-player game features a split-screen with one player as a red Axxel and the other a blue Axxel. In a two-player game you go head-to-head through 28 rounds. Grid Runner games can be saved using a memory card or through a password feature.
