Doom Troopers (Super Nintendo Entertainment System, 1995)

Description
Loosely based on the Mutant Chronicles pen-and-paper RPG, Doom Troopers is a Contra-like game in which you, as either Mitch Hunter or Max Steiner, blaze a trail across Mars, Venus, Mercury, Pluto, and Nero (the tenth planet). Armed with an attack gun and limited hand-to-hand combat abilities, your mission is to defeat the Dark Legion, a band of evil aliens who have overrun the human bases established across the solar system. To enhance your firepower, you can pick up special weapon power-ups, including flamethrowers, rockets, exploding fireballs, and homing missiles. Both standard fire and special weapons are in limited supply, so you must grab power-ups throughout to keep a stockpile of ammo. You will also come across health power-ups and extra lives. The War on the Distant Planets will take you in and around lush jungles, raging waterfalls, burning pools of lava, icy caverns, and other menacing terrain. You'll run, jump, climb, shoot, and fight your way through an onslaught of nature-based obstacles and weapon-toting enemies. Doom Troopers is an especially gory game, as destroyed enemies rip apart before your eyes, splattering blood everywhere. Three difficulty levels are available, and you can save your progress via password. For cooperative action, one player controls Mitch while the other controls Max.
