Based on contemporary PlayStation 2 versions of the multi-platform golf title, Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the PSP features 3D graphics, a wide selection of professional golfers and courses, and an interface familiar to fans of earlier releases in the series. Players swing their clubs using the analog control pad, for a more direct, visceral feel. A custom golfer can be created and developed in the game's career mode, which has players working their way up the leader boards to eventually challenge all-time greats such as Arnold Palmer, Vijay Singh, and of course, Tiger Woods himself.
