Description
Notable for its inclusion of a storybook-style, 80-page instruction manual that provides clues about secrets and hidden areas in the game, Skuljagger is a quirky platformer that has your character, who runs quickly and can jump far, wielding a sword against a slew of pirates and other enemies (including rats and flying ants). There are gems to collect for protection (otherwise it's a one-hit death game), and, curiously enough, there are chewable bubblegum power-ups that provide bombs, flotation, and other items and abilities. The sword fights are fairly enjoyable, the game moves at a nice, breezy pace, the password feature is convenient, and the swashbuckling atmosphere of the game is enhanced by a terrific musical score and fun-to-read text. On the negative side, there are blind jumps into bottomless pits, repetitious enemies and gameplay, and the graphics are merely adequate. Overall, this is an enjoyable, if somewhat flawed, action game.
