Description
Hanna-Barbera's famous cartoon bear comes to the Game Boy in Yogi Bear's Gold Rush. Wildlife sanctuary and tourist attraction Jellystone Park is in trouble. A stockpile of money, which is needed to keep the park up and running during the winter, has been stolen by Jake, a fiendishly evil cowboy ghost. It is up to you as Yogi Bear to recover the pilfered cash. Your quest to find 12 secret safes will take you through six areas of play: Jellystone Park, Cloud World, a pirate ship, a construction site, a mineshaft, and a haunted western town. There are more than 20 levels in all. The action in this game is of the typical side-scrolling platform variety, with puzzles thrown in for good measure. You move primarily from left to right, and you can run, jump and duck. There are no weapons, but you can hop on top of the mushrooms, spiders, strange creatures, and other enemies. Some of the enemies must be jumped on more than once and some are indestructible. Also, you must dodge obstacles such as birds and bouncing balls, and you'll face a boss at the end of each of the six areas of play. As you progress, you should collect picnic baskets as 99 of them will net you an extra continue. You can also scoop up extra units of energy and an occasional extra life. When you see a lever, jump onto it and see what happens. Levers control certain ambulatory elements of the game such as lifts and moving platforms. Throughout the game you'll discover hidden features that will help you progress through the levels. These include blocks, which act as platforms; trampolines, which you can use to access higher areas; and potion, which inflates Yogi and lets him float in the air. Also, hidden magic doors lead to the 12 safes. Once inside a safe, you must collect all 25 coins contained therein to get one gold bar. Acquire 12 bars and you've won the game.
