Description
Capcom's Gold Medal Challenge '92 for the NES features 17 games, each based on an Olympic event. The games are broken up into four categories: track events, which consists of the 100 meter dash, the 100 meter relay, the 200 Meter Dash, the 300 meter dash, the 110 meter hurdles, and a marathon; field events, which consists of the long jump, the javelin throw, the triple jump, the shot put, and the high jump; indoor games, which consists of weightlifting and the vaulting horse; and swimming events, which consists of the 100 meter breast, the 100 meter butterfly, the 100 meter freestyle, and the 200 meter medley. Each contest other than the swimming events and the marathon requires you to repeatedly press the A and B buttons as fast as you can in order to build up your speed and/or strength. Rhythm is the key to winning the swimming events; these games require a slower, more steady use of the buttons. The marathon is largely a passive contest. At the beginning of each leg of the race, you must choose your running speed based on the terrain of the track. Once you've chosen your speed, you simply watch the race unfold. In the World Tournament, you can represent one of 10 different countries. If you don't feel as though you are experienced enough to compete in the World Tournament or you just want to practice, you can play the training mode, which is for one player only.
