Description

Based on MGA Entertainment's series of toy dolls with "a passion for fashion," the video game version of Bratz brings together Yasmin, Cloe, Jade, Sasha, and Meygan for a dance contest designed for girls of all ages. To help re-create each character's distinctive style, the developers used over 4000 frames of high-resolution animation. A total of 20 soundtracks are available to listen to as players guide their dancing divas to the rhythmic beat of the music. As in games like Dance Dance Revolution, the object of the game is to press the Control Pad at the precise moment an arrow flashes on the screen. Maintaining a sense of rhythm enables the character to perform more complicated routines and will in turn increase the player's score. True to the toy line, Bratz for Game Boy Advance also lets players dress up their doll in a variety of stylish outfits and accessories. Before competition, players can have fun performing freestyle moves without worrying about onscreen indicators or perfecting a routine. Modes of play include single- and multiplayer contests, where characters can create their own moves and force their rivals to imitate them at the risk of losing points. Unlike traditional dolls, such as Barbie, Bratz feature a style inspired by Japanese anime and hip-hop fashion. The characters also come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, which has helped fuel the popularity of the franchise. Bratz dolls were awarded the People's Choice for Toy of the Year Award at the 2002 Toy Fair.
