A 3D simulation of the number-one participation sport in the world, VR Soccer '96 pits you against the computer or a friend in virtual soccer action. There are 44 international teams to choose from with 22 players on each squad. Each player is rated according to statistics such as vision, accuracy, power, pace, discipline, control, and flair. You can use your bench throughout the game, bringing in new players with the desired skills. There are two basic styles of play: arcade and simulation. The arcade mode relies depends very little on player stats and gets you straight to soccer action. The simulation mode relies more on strategy, forcing you to try and put together a group of guys who will help win you some games. Either style of play is available for use in a friendly game, league play, or the cup mode, which is a single-elimination tournament. Beginners may want to enter the practice mode and brush up on their fundamentals before facing competition. Options and features in this game include wind speed adjustment, referee selection, camera angle adjustment, penalty shots, bookings, free kicks, corner kicks, goal kicks, throw-ins, manual and automatic control, simulation mode, and instant replays.
