Toukiden: Kiwami is a supercharged version of the Toukiden: The Age of Demons, which found gamers joining up to three friends and battling massive creatures. The Monster Hunter-like hack-and-slash action is set in a fantasy world based on historical periods in Japan, and players begin as a new recruit in the Slayers, an organization bound to protect the world from the demonic Oni. The Oni can regenerate limbs, so they must be destroyed in a relentless, systematic manner using the Ritual of Purification. Defeated Oni release the souls of ancient fallen heroes known as Mitama. Kiwami expands on The Age of Demons, doubling the number of stages, adding more weapons and attack styles, and including more terrifying Oni and more than 100 new Mitama. There are now more than 300 Mitama available, and their souls can be used to add special abilities and attributes to weapons like swords and bows. Mitama can be leveled up and combined to create unique skill combinations and help players cater to their particular combat preferences. During the course of their adventure, gamers will be joined in battle by an intriguing cast of allies, but they can also team up with friends for co-op action via Internet or Ad-hoc connections. Players can transfer their save data from The Age of Demons into Kiwami, and the game supports cross-saving between the PS4 and Vita.
