Billed as an "age-targeted trivia game," Smarty Pants offers 20,000 questions across multiple categories. The difficulty level is based on a user's age rather than a fixed setting, allowing older and younger players to compete simultaneously. Answers are also tracked over time, allowing the game to further adjust the question pool to provide a suitable challenge. Motion-sensitive controls involve raising one's hand to answer questions, spinning a wheel, dancing, and engaging in a tug-of-war contest over correct responses. Eight featured categories include sports, art, books, science and math, people and places, fashion, games, and entertainment. Up to four contestants can compete in two play modes: countdown and wager. The former awards the most points for the quickest answers, while the latter involves manually adjusting point values before categories by targeting the Wii Remote at plus or minus icons. Smarty Pants also incorporates Mii characters as on-screen alter egos, or players can choose from an assortment of pre-existing personas.
