Description
Monsters, Inc. for the Game Boy Color features 12 side-scrolling levels starring characters Sulley and Mike from the 2001 computer-animated movie. The game follows the basic storyline of the film, which has the monster duo trying to return a little girl who has secretly entered their world. Besides worrying about toxic kid germs, Sulley and Mike will have to avoid being captured by Randall and the Child Detection Agency. The game begins in Sulley's apartment, where he learns how to jump, hang, push objects, charge, and duck. The rest of the adventure takes both characters through multiple stages of the Monsters, Inc. agency, the city of Monstropolis, a cave in the Himalayas, and a secret laboratory. Objectives range from finding a certain number of objects to simply getting from point A to point B while avoiding obstacles such as stalactites, stalagmites, robot claws, and more. While certain stages are playable by only one of the characters, other stages let players decide which monster to use to take advantage of specific abilities. Collecting items called Blort Cans keep both Sulley and Mike from having to restart the level if kid germs or other objects hit them. Other items include Take-Out Boxes and Green Teddy Bears for extra lives. A password system is used to resume progress after competing a level.
