Ice Age (Nintendo Game Boy Advance, 2002)

Description
Having begun life as a CG-animated feature film, Ice Age makes the jump to the small screen in this Game Boy Advance platformer. Based on events depicted in the motion picture, Ice Age tasks players with guiding both Manny the Mammoth and Sid the Sloth through ten levels of platform-oriented action. Starting out, players control Manny who, along with the human baby Roshan, must navigate a myriad of environments while keeping saber-tooth tigers, hedgehogs, and bees at bay. To do so, Manny is capable of hurling large nuts as makeshift projectiles at any on-screen enemies. Wild animals aren't the only obstacle players will encounter, as they'll need to move a sleeping rhinoceros to advance and inhale skunk fumes to float over dangerous chasms. Interspersed throughout these levels are stages where players assume control of Sid the Sloth. Contrary to what his name would imply, Sid must scoot through the levels, running and jumping to avoid the many hazards that litter his path and using his spin attack to fend off the less-than-friendly locals. Regardless of the character players control, acorns can be acquired which, in similar fashion to the Sonic titles, allow players to survive multiple enemy hits. Each hit will cost the player a single acorn, and should when hit with no acorns at all, a life is lost. As an added incentive however, players can unlock a bonus level by collecting a Golden Nut -- awarded when finishing a level with more than 40 acorns -- in each level. Still scenes from the movie are scattered throughout the title, highlighting significant in-game events.
