Xtreme Wheels is a BMX racing title featuring 20 tracks filled with hills, ramps, and varied terrain. Players begin by selecting a racing team with one rider individually rated in speed, balance, and stamina, but more riders can be added after qualifying for new licenses. Modes of play include Grand Prix, where the top six finishers on each course earn points used to determine their overall ranking, Training, where players can practice various skills and race to earn extra riders, and Time Attack. Four licenses are available, including Novice, Junior, International, and Super. Racing the Grand Prix with each new license offers more challenging competition, forcing players to maximize jumps and select the most direct route to the finish line. Pedaling the bike involves holding down a button while monitoring a stamina meter, while tricks such as bunny hops, wheelies, and jackknives are used to avoid obstacles and help streamline jumps. Battery backup automatically saves unlocked licenses, riders, and fastest lap times.
